Safety procedures with roof cleaning

Roofs require the most delicate attention when they’re washed because without proper procedure their integrity can become compromised. When you choose to work with us, we promise that your roof is in the safest of hands, as we prefer manual cleaning methods as opposed to the more damaging pressure washing.

Although you may directly or indirectly overlook the state of your roof for most of the year, having it cleaned in the spring makes great sense. After the other seasons pass, your roof will most likely be covered in debris, which you will want off the roof ASAP. Before professionals like us venture up to the rooftops though, there are a myriad of factors that we need to address.

It’s always best to pick a sturdy pair of shoes when accessing the roofs. Footwear that provides ankle support and ample tread are the ideal choice. The right shoes will have a positive influence on safety when using ladders and walking on the roof.

Speaking of ladders, while using a strong, extendable one is wise, it’s always good to have some extra accessories for it. For the top section, some stabilizers or hooks are wise as they grab onto the structure to help minimise ladder movement. For additional safety, asking someone to hold the base as a person moves up and down its length can be quite beneficial.

We need to watch our step with every weight shift on the roof too and have to be careful of tripping hazards. Keeping our legs spread apart is also an excellent practice, as it allows us to maintain balance on the angled roof surfaces as we sweep the debris off.

At Surrey Roof and Gutter Clean we take measures to ensure not only our own safety, but that of our clients as well. We understand how much your house means to you, which is why we go out of our way to ensure the structural integrity when we provide roof cleaning. Should you need a professional service we are just one call away.
